On the occasion of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s (NTR) 103rd birth anniversary , a renewed political demand has emerged in Telangana to rename Hyderabad International Airport after the iconic leader.

Kukatpally BRS MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao paid tributes to NTR’s statue at Vasanth Nagar in KPHB Division, describing his personal and political journey as deeply shaped by the former chief minister’s influence. He recalled that he cast his first vote in support of the Telugu Desam Party , inspired by NTR’s leadership and ideology.

Calling NTR a transformative force in both cinema and politics, the MLA said his legacy should not be limited to statues and ceremonial tributes but should be reflected through lasting public recognition. In that context, he reiterated his demand to name Shamshabad International Airport after NTR, arguing it would be a fitting honour for a leader of his stature.

He also referred to earlier developmental initiatives linked to NTR’s name, including a government school project sanctioned on a three-acre site in KPHB Division during the previous BRS regime, urging the current government to ensure its completion without delay.

Highlighting NTR’s administrative reforms, Krishna Rao credited him with dismantling long-standing systems and empowering Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes by expanding their access to political and social opportunities.

The renewed demand has once again pushed the issue into the political spotlight in Telangana , triggering fresh debate across party lines.
