Allegations of a Rs 2.19 crore financial fraud in the Nandivada Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society (PACS) have triggered concern among local farmers, prompting Gudivada MLA Venigandla Ramu to seek immediate action against those responsible.

The MLA convened an urgent review meeting at his Prajavedi office with officials from the Cooperative Department and the Krishna District Cooperative Central Bank (KDCC Bank) after reports emerged of large-scale misappropriation of funds belonging to farmers. The development comes soon after the district witnessed controversy over an alleged municipal cooperative society scam.

During the meeting, officials informed the MLA that money collected from farmers had allegedly not been deposited into the society’s accounts. Instead, PACS secretary Harish Prasad is accused of diverting the funds for personal use, resulting in substantial losses to the cooperative institution.

Ramu later held discussions with District Cooperative Officer (DCO) Chandrasekhar Reddy , who reportedly stated that the secretary had repeatedly avoided producing audit records whenever they were sought by authorities. According to preliminary findings, irregularities exceeding Rs 2 crore have already been identified during the investigation.

Expressing strong displeasure over the incident, the MLA said that those who misused public funds and farmers’ hard-earned money would not be spared. He directed officials to ensure that every rupee siphoned off is recovered and that justice is delivered to affected farmers. He also called for stringent legal action against the accused official.

Ramu further urged authorities to expedite proceedings in the earlier municipal cooperative society scam by seeking the vacation of court stays obtained by some of the accused, enabling the investigation to move forward without delay.

To prevent similar incidents in the future, the MLA stressed the need for continuous monitoring of cooperative societies and regular audits to improve accountability and transparency in their functioning.

Speaking at the meeting, Gudivada Market Yard Chairman Chatragadda Ravi alleged that the irregularities dated back to the previous YSRCP government’s tenure and came to light only after complaints were raised by leaders of the ruling coalition.

The MLA assured affected farmers that the coalition government would stand by them and take all necessary measures to protect their interests while ensuring accountability in the cooperative sector.
