Modi Launches Europe Visit With Macron Talks, Innovation Summit and Key State Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed from New Delhi for a six day official visit to France and Slovakia , beginning a multi city diplomatic tour that includes high-level bilateral talks, a landmark state visit, and participation in major global innovation and summit platforms.

The first stop of the visit will be Nice on June 13 and 14 , where Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on June 14. The two leaders will review progress in the Special Global Strategic Partnership , which was elevated in February following Macron’s visit to Mumbai for the AI Impact Summit.

The discussions are expected to focus on defence cooperation, civil nuclear energy, innovation, and critical technologies . Sources suggest that nearly 12 new bilateral initiatives may be announced, reflecting the expanding strategic convergence between the two countries. The talks also come amid India’s Letter of Request for 114 Rafale fighter jets under the Multi Role Fighter Aircraft programme.

On the same day, Modi and Macron will jointly inaugurate “Bharat Innovates 2026” at the Palais des Expositions. Organised by the Ministry of Education, the event will feature 120 Indian innovators, 15 higher education institutions, and more than 500 investors , spanning sectors such as semiconductors, space technology, and biotechnology . The initiative highlights India’s growing global innovation footprint.

From France, the Prime Minister will travel to Slovakia for a state visit from June 14 to 16 , marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993. He will hold talks with Prime Minister Robert Fico and meet President Peter Pellegrini , with discussions expected to expand cooperation in trade, investment, automobile manufacturing, and railways. Modi will also engage with Slovak business leaders.

He will then proceed to Evian for the 52nd G7 Summit on June 16 and 17 , where India has been invited for the eighth consecutive year. At the summit, Modi is expected to interact with global leaders and strongly articulate the concerns and priorities of the Global South .

The tour will conclude in Paris on June 18 , where Modi will attend VivaTech 2026 alongside President Macron, with India participating as the AI Country Partner. He is also expected to address the Indian diaspora before concluding his Europe visit.
