
Modi, Qatar Amir Hold Call After Deadly Explosion Kills 12 Indians in Qatar
In the wake of the tragic explosion at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar , Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani , who expressed deep grief and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives, including Indian nationals.
The blast at an LNG facility on Sunday night claimed 13 lives , among them 12 Indians , and left several others injured. The incident at the Barzan gas supply facility , operated by QatarEnergy LNG, has caused widespread concern in both countries due to the large number of foreign workers affected.
In a post on X , PM Modi thanked the Qatari Amir for his phone call and expressed appreciation for his condolences. He said both leaders share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and are praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders also discussed the broader situation in West Asia , including ongoing efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region. PM Modi acknowledged Qatar’s constructive role in supporting peace initiatives and expressed hope that these efforts would lead to lasting stability.
The leaders further reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India-Qatar bilateral relations across multiple sectors. They stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and welfare of citizens in both countries and agreed to remain in close contact.
Qatari authorities have confirmed that 66 people were injured in the explosion, including several Indians. Medical teams are providing treatment, and officials have said that all injured persons are currently in stable condition.
The exchange between the two leaders highlights both the humanitarian impact of the tragedy and the continued diplomatic coordination between India and Qatar as they respond to the aftermath together.
