Modi, UAE President Unite on G7 Sidelines, Call for Peace and Stability in West Asia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held extensive discussions on regional developments in West Asia and the growing strategic partnership between their two countries during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-Les-Bains, France.
At a time when geopolitical developments continue to shape the region's security landscape, the two leaders emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, respect for international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as the foundation for achieving lasting peace and stability in West Asia. Their discussions reflected a shared commitment to resolving regional challenges through peaceful means and strengthening cooperation on issues of mutual concern.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi described the interaction as highly productive and highlighted the strong bonds between India and the United Arab Emirates. He said both leaders reviewed bilateral relations across multiple sectors and explored ways to further deepen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership , which has emerged as one of India's most significant relationships in the Gulf region.
The leaders also exchanged views on developments affecting regional peace and security, underscoring the need to maintain stability in a region that plays a critical role in global energy supplies and international trade. Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring free, safe, and uninterrupted navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz , one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes.
The discussions came shortly after a major diplomatic breakthrough involving the United States and Iran, a development that has drawn global attention due to its implications for regional security and energy markets. Against this backdrop, India and the UAE reiterated the value of diplomatic engagement in reducing tensions and promoting long-term stability.
The two leaders also reviewed progress made in bilateral cooperation since Sheikh Mohamed's visit to India in January and Prime Minister Modi's visit to the UAE in May. Areas of cooperation discussed included technology, trade, investment, energy, and defence , sectors that have witnessed significant growth in recent years.
Prime Minister Modi additionally expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership for its continued support and welfare measures for the large Indian community residing in the Emirates. The Indian diaspora remains a vital bridge connecting the two nations and contributing to their strong people-to-people ties.
Marking their third meeting of 2026, the interaction highlighted the momentum in India-UAE relations. During the talks, Modi also extended an invitation to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the BRICS Summit , which India will host later this year, further reinforcing the close partnership between the two countries.
