Morocco continued their impressive rise in world football with a clinical 3-0 victory over Canada in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 , becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarterfinals more than once.

After a goalless but fiercely contested first half, Morocco found another gear following the break. Midfielder Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring in the 50th minute , finishing a clever Achraf Hakimi free kick with a precise right footed strike that found the bottom corner through a crowded penalty area.

Canada attempted to respond but struggled to break through Morocco's disciplined defence. The African side remained composed and doubled their lead in the 82nd minute , with Ounahi calmly finishing from close range after a well timed pass from Brahim Díaz . Substitute Soufiane Rahimi completed the scoring in stoppage time, sealing a dominant performance.

The victory sends Morocco into the quarterfinals for the second consecutive World Cup , having also reached the last eight before their historic semifinal run in 2022 . They will now face the winner of the France vs Paraguay clash.

For Canada , the defeat ended a memorable campaign on home soil. Co hosting the tournament, the Canadians had reached the knockout stage for the first time and secured their maiden World Cup knockout victory by defeating South Africa 1-0 , making this one of the country's finest football achievements.

Canada did create a few late opportunities, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou , who was born in Canada to Moroccan parents, made three important saves to preserve the clean sheet. The physical encounter also produced eight yellow cards , while Morocco suffered an injury setback after Ismael Saibari was forced off early.

With confidence, experience and growing belief, Morocco have once again emerged as one of the tournament's strongest contenders, carrying African hopes into another World Cup quarterfinal.
