The Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has widened its investigation into a suspected inter-state radicalisation network with the arrest of two more individuals from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, taking the total number of arrests in the case to three.

The probe began with the arrest of Mohd Faraz (35) from Bhopal's Qazi Camp area on Friday. Subsequently, the ATS arrested Nayeem Abdullah Qureshi (38) from Nanauta in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district and Mohd Shakir (34) from Rajasthan's Alwar district.

According to officials, Qureshi was apprehended during a joint operation involving the MP ATS, Uttar Pradesh ATS, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), and central intelligence agencies , while Shakir was taken into custody early Sunday. Sources indicated that investigators are also tracking a fourth suspect in another state.

The case surfaced after central intelligence agencies shared inputs regarding online groups allegedly being operated by a Pakistan-based handler through encrypted messaging platforms. Investigators suspect the platforms were being used to radicalise and recruit individuals across different states.

Officials claim that Faraz, a graduate employed at a private homoeopathic clinic, had been in contact with members of the alleged network and was being influenced through online channels. Investigators further allege that Qureshi introduced Faraz to the online group nearly two years ago. The two reportedly studied together at a madrasa in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh.

The ATS has seized electronic devices, digital records, extremist literature, and videos allegedly shared within the group. Authorities are examining the network's structure, communication patterns, possible overseas links, and any plans discussed among its members.

Cases involving alleged online radicalisation have become an increasing focus for security agencies as encrypted communication platforms pose challenges for monitoring extremist recruitment efforts. Anti-terror squads and intelligence agencies regularly conduct coordinated operations to identify potential threats, disrupt recruitment networks, and prevent activities that could pose risks to internal security and public safety . Faraz and Qureshi have been remanded to ATS custody until June 16, while Shakir has been sent to custody until June 20. Investigations are ongoing.
