Mrunal Thakur Backs Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon After Trolling Over Looks And Clothing
Actor Mrunal Thakur has come out in support of Katrina Kaif and Kriti Sanon after the Bollywood stars faced online trolling over their appearance and clothing choices, urging people to respect their personal decisions and recognise their contributions to the film industry.
Speaking to PTI in Mumbai on Friday, October 9, Mrunal criticised the scrutiny directed at the two actors, pointing out their achievements both in cinema and business.
“It's their life, it's their choice and everyone has a right to enjoy their phase of their life,” she said, questioning why people judging the two women overlook their professional accomplishments.
Mrunal added that both actors had built businesses extending beyond India, including the UK, and urged social media users to refrain from commenting on other people's personal choices. She also observed that women have long faced judgement, while acknowledging that men are subjected to scrutiny too.
The actor's comments came amid renewed debate over body shaming and the policing of women's appearances. Katrina faced criticism on social media in September after her appearance at the Ambani family's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with users commenting on her weight following the birth of her son, Vihaan, in November 2025.
Katrina subsequently addressed the issue at a London promotional event for her beauty brand, Kay Beauty, speaking about self-esteem and the importance of not allowing online criticism to dictate one's confidence.
Kriti, meanwhile, faced backlash over a GIVA jewellery advertisement released around Raksha Bandhan. The campaign featured her tying a rakhi to a pet dog, while some viewers objected to her outfit and questioned its suitability for the traditional festival.
The controversy prompted the brand to withdraw the advertisement. Kriti responded on social media, arguing that cultural values and traditions should not be judged by a woman's clothing. “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!” she wrote.
Mrunal was speaking during promotions for her latest release, 'Pooja Meri Jaan', which is streaming on ZEE5. Directed by Navjot Gulati and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, the crime thriller follows Pooja, a free-spirited woman played by Mrunal, whose rejection of a proposal from her longtime friend Aniket is followed by his death by suicide and an email blaming her.
The film also features Huma Qureshi, Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz in key roles.
