Mumbai Police Book Two Goa Men in ₹6 Crore Extortion Case

Mumbai Police have registered an extortion case against two residents of Goa and their associates for allegedly demanding ₹6 crore from a representative of real estate company The House of Abhinandan Lodha to allow uninterrupted construction work on an ongoing project in the coastal state.

The NM Joshi Marg police registered an FIR on August 27 following a complaint by a liaison officer associated with the company. According to the complaint, the accused allegedly threatened to disrupt and halt construction at the project site unless the company made payments.

Police identified the accused as Siddhesh Jana Tari and Pritesh Salgaonkar, along with their associates. The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded ₹6 crore in exchange for allowing the company's Goa project to continue without obstruction.

Investigators said Tari allegedly received ₹34 lakh, while Salgaonkar allegedly collected ₹7 lakh from the complainant through multiple installments over the past five months. The total amount allegedly paid to the accused stood at ₹41 lakh.

The complainant reportedly faced repeated threats and demands for money during this period. According to police, the accused recently sought an additional ₹10 lakh, prompting the complainant to approach the NM Joshi Marg police station.

As the real estate company's office falls within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai police station, the complaint was registered there, officials said.

The police have invoked relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections dealing with extortion and criminal intimidation. Authorities are now investigating the allegations and are examining the circumstances surrounding the payments, threats and alleged demands made against the company representative.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses. The allegations against the accused are yet to be established in court.
