Mumbai witnessed another spell of intense monsoon rainfall on Friday, with several parts of the city recording over 100 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8 am , triggering overnight waterlogging in low-lying areas even as civic authorities remained on alert.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the island city received an average of 126 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 110 mm and 114 mm , respectively. Wadi Bunder registered the highest rainfall at 150.2 mm , followed by Malabar Hill (145.8 mm) and Sandhurst Road (140.8 mm) .

Heavy overnight showers led to waterlogging in areas including Dadar, Andheri, Goregaon and Parel , though officials said floodwaters had largely receded by Friday morning. Rainfall briefly eased before intensifying again after 8 am.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall through the day, accompanied by gusty winds of 50-60 kmph . The BMC also issued a high-tide alert , forecasting a 4.28-metre high tide on Friday afternoon, warning that heavy rain during high tide could hamper drainage and increase the risk of localized flooding.

Despite the weather, suburban train services on the Central, Western and Harbour lines, along with BEST bus operations , continued with only minor delays reported by commuters.

The ongoing monsoon has claimed two lives this week . A man died after falling into a manhole in Chandivali on Thursday, while an 11-year-old boy was killed earlier in Chembur after a tree fell on his school bus.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas and follow official weather advisories as heavy rain is expected to continue.
