Municipal Elections Enter Next Phase as Withdrawal Deadline Ends

The political atmosphere in Telangana has intensified with the commencement of municipal elections. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for polling scheduled on February 11 ended on Tuesday.

Nominations were filed for 2,996 wards across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations . With the completion of the withdrawal process, the list of candidates in the fray has become clear. Major political parties focused on persuading rebel candidates to withdraw, leading to several withdrawals in different areas.

The State Election Commission is finalising the list of contesting candidates and will soon allot symbols and release the official notification. With candidates finalised, campaigning is set to intensify across wards. Candidates from the Congress , BRS , BJP , along with independents, are in the race. Vote counting and results will be announced on February 13 .
