Musi Rejuvenation to Create Jobs, Boost Night Economy in Hyderabad: CM Revanth Reddy
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the government’s ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project will serve not only as an environmental restoration effort but also as a major driver of employment and economic activity in the city. Speaking after inaugurating the restored Bam-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake in Shivarampally , the Chief Minister said the revival of Hyderabad’s lakes and waterways is part of a broader plan to improve the city’s ecosystem while creating new livelihood opportunities for youth.
Highlighting the government’s vision for the Musi riverfront, Revanth Reddy said the state is exploring the concept of a “night economy” , which would allow commercial and recreational activities to continue late into the night. He noted that business activity in Hyderabad’s Old City often runs until midnight and said the government is preparing policies that support traders and entrepreneurs without causing difficulties due to restrictions. According to him, the riverfront development combined with night-time business zones could create significant employment opportunities, tourism activity, and small business growth .
The Chief Minister also sought the cooperation of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi , saying support from local leaders and community groups would help accelerate the Musi rejuvenation programme. He assured that the state government would ensure adequate funding for development projects in the Old City , emphasising that improving infrastructure and economic prospects in the area remains a priority.
Revanth Reddy said the government has launched several initiatives aimed at strengthening Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure while preserving its historic identity . Among them are the development of Kotwal Guda Eco Park , the ongoing Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion , and the restoration of multiple lakes and water bodies across the city.
Stressing the importance of protecting Hyderabad’s natural resources, the Chief Minister said the government is working to remove encroachments and restore lakes, reservoirs, and public parks to their original condition. As an example, he referred to the revival of Bathukamma Kunta Lake , which regained its ecological character after encroachments and obstacles were cleared.
The restoration of Bam-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake , a historic water body dating back to the Nizam era, is part of the broader effort to revive Hyderabad’s network of lakes that once played a vital role in water conservation and flood management.
Alongside the Musi river project, the government is implementing a 99-day action plan to improve livelihood opportunities, civic amenities, and urban infrastructure in the Old City. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for residents while transforming Hyderabad into a more sustainable and economically vibrant metropolis.
The event was attended by Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy , MP Asaduddin Owaisi , MP Anil Kumar Yadav , along with other public representatives and senior government officials.
