Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to establish a dedicated “Musi Experience Centre” in Hyderabad to help citizens better understand the ambitious Musi River rejuvenation and riverfront development programme being undertaken by the state government.

The proposed centre is expected to come up along Necklace Road near Hussain Sagar Lake and will serve as an interactive platform showcasing the vision, design and various phases of the Musi River Front Project. The Chief Minister said the facility should also provide an opportunity for residents to share their feedback and suggestions on the project.

The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting on the first phase of the Musi River Front Project held with senior officials.

Emphasising the importance of rehabilitation, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to give special attention to families residing in areas affected by the project. He said eligible residents living in Musi riverbed settlements should be provided government-built double-bedroom houses as part of the rehabilitation process.

The Chief Minister also directed that owners of private lands acquired for the project be compensated in accordance with legal provisions. Landowners, he said, should either receive appropriate monetary compensation or be offered Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) wherever applicable.

To ensure that development works proceed without delays, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to relocate certain structures situated on Defence Ministry land required for the proposed Gandhi Sarovar Project at Bapu Ghat. The state government, he said, would undertake the relocation exercise to facilitate smooth execution of the project.

The Gandhi Sarovar Project forms a key component of the broader Musi River restoration initiative. Defence authorities recently granted permission for work to begin on the project at Bapu Ghat, a site of historical significance associated with Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi’s ashes were immersed at the confluence of the Musi and Esi rivers in 1948, and the memorial at Bapu Ghat was subsequently developed there.

The Telangana government has drawn up a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate the 55-kilometre stretch of the Musi River . The first phase is proposed to extend from the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar to the Gandhi Sarovar site at Bapu Ghat.

The review meeting was attended by Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, MP Vem Narender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and other senior officials.
