Nation First, Not Religion’ – BJP Leader on India’s Foreign Policy
BJP state leader Prakash Reddy has strongly rebuked MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for his comments on India’s position amid the West Asia crisis, saying the country’s foreign policy is driven purely by national interest, not religion.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Reddy stressed that India’s diplomatic decisions are shaped by geopolitical realities, strategic priorities, and bilateral relations. He accused Owaisi of interpreting international affairs through a religious lens. “Foreign policy is never determined by religion. India always follows a ‘Nation First’ approach,” he said. He added that the government takes clear, measured steps based on the political context and bilateral discussions.
The remarks came after Owaisi criticized the central government’s handling of foreign policy at a recent Hyderabad event. With tensions rising in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeskian . Owaisi demanded that India explicitly condemn attacks on Iran and accused the government of showing a double standard, insisting that mere appeals against violence were not enough.
Rising Tensions in West Asia
The conflict, which began on February 28, has escalated sharply. Military operations by Israel and the United States , followed by retaliatory strikes from Iran , have destabilized the Gulf region. Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. Analysts warn the conflict is also affecting global energy markets and international trade routes.
