Actress Nayanthara returns as the powerful goddess Mahasakthi in 'Mookuthi Amman 2 – Maha Sakthi', the sequel to the 2020 film 'Mookuthi Amman'. Directed by Sundar C, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 6, 2026, during the Diwali festive season.

The trailer introduces Nayanthara in a dual role, portraying both the divine goddess and a timid police constable who becomes involved in a supernatural battle. The narrative moves between a mythological kingdom facing an invasion and the present day, where powerful mythical villains threaten humanity. Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay appear as antagonists, while the conflict puts innocent people, particularly children, in danger.

The ensemble cast includes Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Myna Nandini, Garuda Ram, Shruthy S and Singampuli, while actress Sneha is expected to make a cameo appearance. The makers have clarified that the sequel presents a standalone storyline rather than directly continuing the narrative of the original film.

The first instalment, directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, premiered directly on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sundar C has taken over the directorial responsibilities for the sequel.

Reportedly made on a ₹100-crore budget, the film features extensive visual effects and large-scale mythological sequences. Hiphop Tamizha has composed the music, Gopi Amarnath handles cinematography, and Fenny Oliver is the editor. Venkat Raghavan has co-written the screenplay and dialogues with Sundar C.

Produced by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Film International, in association with Rowdy Pictures and Avni Cinemax, the film blends mythology, devotion, fantasy and action. Its release coincides with a competitive festive box-office window featuring Suriya's 'Scene' and 'Ramayana: Part 1'.
