Nepal Floods: YSRCP MP Gurumoorthy Urges Swift Aid for Affected AP Residents

Tirupati YSRCP MP Maddila Gurumoorthy has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Indian High Commissioner in Kathmandu, seeking urgent intervention to assist Andhra Pradesh residents affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

In separate letters, Gurumoorthy urged the authorities to ensure immediate medical assistance for those injured and intensify efforts to trace Andhra Pradesh residents whose whereabouts remain unknown. He also sought prompt action to identify those who died in the disaster and facilitate the transportation of their mortal remains to their native places.

The MP said reports of injuries, deaths and missing persons in the Nepal disaster had caused deep concern among families in Andhra Pradesh, making swift intervention by the Central government essential.

He urged the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Kathmandu to coordinate closely with the Nepal government, local authorities, relief agencies and other concerned organisations to ensure timely hospitalisation, medicines and emergency medical support for those affected.

Gurumoorthy also requested authorities to identify and recover the bodies of those who died, complete the necessary official formalities and arrange for their earliest possible return to their hometowns. He further sought appropriate assistance for the families affected by the tragedy.

Calling for stronger and faster rescue operations, Gurumoorthy urged the Indian and Nepalese governments and rescue teams to work in close coordination to trace Andhra Pradesh residents who are still unaccounted for.

He also sought regular updates on the injured, deceased and missing persons, saying families in Andhra Pradesh were anxiously waiting for information about the safety and whereabouts of their relatives. The affected families and Andhra Pradesh officials should be kept informed of developments, he said.

Meanwhile, AP Bhavan in New Delhi said it had identified the details of seven Andhra Pradesh pilgrims whose whereabouts need to be traced or verified following the floods in Nepal. Their information has been forwarded to the Indian Embassy in Nepal for tracing, verification and necessary assistance.

Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate with the concerned authorities to trace the pilgrims and extend any assistance required as rescue and relief efforts continue.
