Netflix Confirms June 26 Release For Baahubali-The Torchbearer As Fans Speculate On Content
The makers of the Baahubali franchise have confirmed that Baahubali: The Torchbearer , a new documentary style project, will premiere directly on Netflix on June 26, 2026, a Friday, bypassing a theatrical release altogether. Details remain officially undisclosed, though early reports indicate the special will trace how the original films were made and the scale of their cultural impact.
The announcement follows a decade defining run for the franchise. SS Rajamouli's Baahubali The Beginning and Baahubali The Conclusion, featuring Prabhas , Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty, reshaped Indian cinema with record breaking box office numbers across domestic and international markets. Produced by Arka Mediaworks , the franchise marked its tenth anniversary with the theatrical re release of Baahubali The Epic, a remastered single cut that drew strongly positive social media reaction and is expected to set fresh records among Indian re-releases, before the film later moved to Netflix.
Industry observers have drawn comparisons with RRR Behind and Beyond, a documentary style spin off that underperformed in cinemas but found a stronger response once it streamed, a precedent that appears to have shaped the decision to send Torchbearer straight to Netflix rather than theatres.
The franchise's expansion continues on multiple fronts. Baahubali: The Eternal War , a two part animated epic presented by Rajamouli and budgeted at approximately Rs 120 crore, follows the slain Prince Baahubali into an afterlife war across fourteen realms. Directed by Ishan Shukla with a screenplay by Scott Mosier, it was recently showcased at the Annecy International Film Festival. A separate Telugu special version of the franchise also remains awaited by fans.
