Vehicular movement between Sikkim and Siliguri has been diverted through alternative routes after landslides severely disrupted National Highway 10 (NH-10) at Sevoke , officials said.

In a communication issued on Thursday, the Darjeeling Superintendent of Police requested the Kalimpong police to divert all vehicles travelling between Siliguri and Sikkim via the Moonsong–Gorubathan route . Depending on traffic conditions, vehicles may also be redirected through the Coronation Bridge–Mongpong–Gajoldoba corridor .

Authorities said NH-10 remained severely affected throughout Thursday due to a major landslide, forcing repeated suspension and diversion of traffic to facilitate debris-clearing operations .

Although the highway was briefly reopened after clearance work, officials warned that the situation remains unstable. Fresh landslides involving small boulders and debris continue to occur, indicating that the affected slope is still vulnerable.

"The affected road was cleared and traffic movement was restored for a brief period. However, fresh landslides involving small boulders and debris are continuing to occur, indicating that the slope remains unstable," the official communication stated.

Officials cautioned that the unstable terrain poses a serious risk to commuters , making the immediate restoration of normal traffic movement impossible.

The diversion has been implemented to ensure commuter safety and allow uninterrupted debris removal operations. Authorities have urged motorists to follow traffic advisories, cooperate with police personnel, and use the designated alternate routes until normal traffic on NH-10 is fully restored.
