NIA Charges 11 in IMK-JMB Terror Conspiracy Case Targeting Northeast and West Bengal

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against 11 individuals in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy linked to Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK) , an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) , for allegedly attempting to expand the outfit's influence in West Bengal and the northeastern states .

The chargesheet was submitted before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati , with the agency alleging that the accused played active roles in a conspiracy aimed at promoting the Bangladesh-based terror group's extremist ideology, radicalising vulnerable youth, and strengthening its network in India.

According to the NIA, JMB senior member Imam Mahmud Habibullah established IMK to further the banned organisation's activities on Indian soil. Investigators said the accused worked together to expand the outfit's presence through clandestine meetings, religious indoctrination programmes, circulation of extremist literature, and the use of digital platforms to spread anti-India propaganda .

The agency further alleged that the accused encouraged allegiance to the leadership of IMK and JMB as part of their efforts to recruit and radicalise supporters.

Among those named in the chargesheet are Nasimuddin , who allegedly headed IMK operations in Assam , and Jagir Mia , who is accused of leading the outfit's activities in Tripura .

During the course of the investigation, the NIA said it recovered incriminating documents, electronic devices, and digital records , which it cited as key evidence supporting the charges against the accused.

The agency said its investigation established the involvement of all 11 accused in the alleged conspiracy and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terror networks operating within the country.
