NIA Conducts Searches at 10 J&K Locations in LeT Cross-Border Terror Conspiracy Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 10 locations across Jammu and Kashmir as part of its investigation into an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and a network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs) suspected of providing logistical and other support to infiltrated terrorists.

The searches were conducted in Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore to gather further evidence linked to the conspiracy and ascertain the suspected roles of individuals allegedly facilitating the movement and activities of infiltrated terrorists. The NIA said incriminating material relevant to the case was seized or secured during the searches and is being examined and corroborated with evidence already collected.

The investigation, registered as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU, began after the arrest of an alleged LeT-linked OGW at a naka point in the Zakura area of Srinagar on the night of March 31, 2026. According to the NIA, one hand grenade and 15 live rounds were recovered from his possession. The case was initially registered at Police Station Zakoora and was subsequently taken over and re-registered by the NIA under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Pakistani nationals allegedly linked to the conspiracy and helped investigators identify suspected members of the local support network. The NIA said its probe has revealed alleged links between Pakistan-based LeT handlers and local associates who were being used for communication, movement and concealment of infiltrated terrorists, besides providing shelter, conducting reconnaissance and arranging other logistical support.

The agency is examining the financial trail, communication channels, movements of the accused and the source and supply chain of arms and explosives to establish the complete network and determine the extent of its activities. Investigators are also examining the suspected role of Pakistan-based LeT handler Mohammad Yaqoob alias Abu Sumama, against whom a Special NIA Court in Jammu has issued a non-bailable warrant. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.

The latest searches form part of the NIA's wider effort to dismantle terror-support networks in Jammu and Kashmir, including structures involving OGWs and hybrid operatives linked to Pakistan-based terrorist organisations. Earlier investigations have examined alleged use of digital communication platforms and drones to facilitate the movement of arms, ammunition, explosives and narcotics.

The NIA said the investigation is continuing to identify all persons allegedly involved and establish their respective roles. Further arrests, seizures or legal action will depend on evidence emerging from the ongoing probe.
