The BJP’s newly appointed national leadership has begun work with a clear focus on upcoming elections, grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the party’s communication with voters.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin held his first meeting with the party’s new national office-bearers on Saturday, discussing preparations for upcoming state assembly elections and ways to expand the organisation’s reach at the grassroots.

According to party sources, the meeting focused on poll strategy, grassroots mobilisation and communicating government initiatives to the public. More meetings were scheduled later in the day, with state presidents, state in-charges and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states expected to participate.

The BJP announced its new national team under Nabin earlier this week. The 65-member team includes 51 new faces, making it one of the party’s most significant organisational changes in years.

The new lineup includes 13 national vice presidents, among them former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and former RSS functionary Ram Madhav. Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed one of the eight national general secretaries.

At the same time, several key organisational figures have retained their positions. B L Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), while Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal remain general secretaries.

The new team includes 12 women and six leaders from minority communities, reflecting an effort to widen representation within the party’s national structure.

Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, a position he held before joining the Union Cabinet in 2014.

The reshuffle has also brought changes to the BJP’s digital and youth wings. Amit Malviya has been replaced as IT department head by Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh, while Hemang Joshi of Gujarat has replaced Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya as Yuva Morcha president.

The scale of the changes is notable as the reshuffle comes more than a decade after the BJP’s last organisational overhaul of similar magnitude in 2015 under then president Amit Shah.

The sweeping changes have also fuelled speculation about a possible Cabinet reshuffle, though no official announcement has been made.

With elections ahead, Nabin’s immediate task will be to convert the new organisational structure into an effective grassroots campaign machine.
