NMDC Hyderabad Marathon Sees 12,000+ Runners Take to the Streets

The 15th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon drew an enthusiastic response on Sunday, with more than 12,000 runners taking to the streets across the Full and Half Marathon categories.

The 21-km Half Marathon attracted over 8,500 participants, while more than 3,500 runners tested their endurance in the demanding 42.2-km Full Marathon, reflecting the growing appeal of distance running in the city.

Ethiopian runners dominated the elite contests. In the women’s category, Emane Seifu of Ethiopia claimed the top spot, followed by compatriot Tsega Desta in second place. Kenya’s Teresia Omosa finished third.

The men’s elite title was also won by an Ethiopian athlete, with Seboka Negusse emerging victorious. Kenya’s Felix Kimutai secured second place, while Francis Cheruiyot, also from Kenya, finished third.

Top performers in the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K events were presented with prizes by Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh and NMDC Directors Vivek Nishant Nath and Anurag Kapil.

One of the highlights of this year’s event was the participation of 184 young tribal runners from Bastar in Chhattisgarh. NMDC provided support to enable their participation, adding a distinctive community dimension to the marathon.

The celebrations had begun a day earlier, when another 6,500 participants took part in the 5K and Inclusive Runs. The events brought together nearly 300 persons with disabilities, along with 15 international athletes and 30 Indian elite runners.

With participation cutting across professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts and diverse communities, the latest edition of the marathon once again showcased Hyderabad’s growing stature as a major destination for long-distance running and inclusive sporting events.
