No Loss Reported Despite Stone Attack on Police During Sarkar Express Theft Attempt

A late-night theft attempt aboard the Sarkar Express triggered tense moments for passengers after a group of suspected thieves allegedly entered sleeper coaches, stole belongings and later attacked railway police while trying to evade arrest.

The incident took place between Bapatla and Appikatla railway stations in Andhra Pradesh during the early hours of Sunday. According to officials, the suspects targeted passengers travelling in the S-3 and S-6 coaches , making away with bags and other personal belongings.

The situation took a dramatic turn when the miscreants allegedly tried to snatch a gold chain from a woman passenger. Her immediate cries for help alerted fellow travellers, prompting them to inform the authorities.

Acting swiftly, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the scene and attempted to intercept the suspects. However, the accused reportedly resisted and hurled stones at the police in an effort to escape.

Officials said the police fired warning shots into the air to bring the situation under control and prevent the suspects from fleeing. Despite the action, the thieves managed to escape from the area.

Following the incident, special police teams launched an extensive search operation in the surrounding region. During the investigation, officers recovered two bags believed to have been abandoned by the suspects near the scene.

Speaking on the case, GRP DSP Akkeswara Rao said dedicated teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those involved in the attempted robbery. He confirmed that the recovered bags had been seized as part of the investigation and that efforts to trace the accused were continuing.

Railway police are collecting evidence and examining all available leads as the search for the suspects intensifies.
