India's Mirabai Chanu once again proved why she is the face of Indian weightlifting, scripting history by winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal with a record-breaking performance in Glasgow on Sunday. Rishikanta Singh and M Raja added silver medals to ensure India enjoyed another impressive day on the weightlifting platform.

With the victory, Mirabai completed a golden hat-trick, having also won gold at the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The triumph further strengthened her legacy as one of India's greatest-ever weightlifters.

Competing after going two days without food or water to stay within her weight category, the 31-year-old overcame a missed opening snatch attempt to deliver a champion's response. She lifted 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk, finishing with a total of 190kg. In the process, she broke the Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games records in the snatch while also setting new Games records in the clean and jerk and overall total. Nigeria's Ruth Asuquo Nyong finished a distant second, 22kg behind the Indian star.

An emotional Mirabai was in tears as the national anthem played during the medal ceremony, later crediting her family and long-time coach Vijay Sharma for supporting her through every challenge.

India's medal tally grew further with Rishikanta Singh, who matched the Commonwealth Games snatch record with a 121kg lift in the men's 60kg category. A knee injury, however, affected his clean and jerk attempts, limiting him to a 264kg total and the silver medal behind Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan.

In the men's 65kg event, M Raja claimed silver with a combined lift of 286kg, narrowly missing gold to Malaysia's Muhamad Aznil Bin Bidin.

India finished the day with one gold and two silver medals, with Mirabai's historic third straight Commonwealth Games title standing out as the defining achievement of the campaign so far.
