OpenAI Appoints Prabhjeet Singh as India Managing Director to Drive AI Expansion

OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as its Managing Director for India , reinforcing its commitment to one of the company's fastest-growing and highest-priority markets for artificial intelligence adoption. The appointment, announced on Friday, is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to expand its presence and partnerships across the country.

Singh, who will join the company in September , will serve as OpenAI's most senior leader in India , overseeing consumer growth, enterprise adoption, strategic partnerships, regulatory engagement, and operations. He will report to Kiran Mani , Managing Director for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

In his new role, Singh will focus on strengthening partnerships across industries, supporting India's AI ecosystem, and helping consumers, businesses, educational institutions, and government organisations leverage artificial intelligence more effectively.

Before joining OpenAI, Singh served as President of India and South Asia at Uber , where he led the company's mobility business across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh . An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad , he brings extensive experience in scaling technology businesses in the region.

The appointment comes as OpenAI accelerates its India expansion strategy , following the opening of its first office in New Delhi in November 2025 . The company has also been deepening collaborations with businesses and the developer community as it seeks to capitalise on India's rapid adoption of AI technologies.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has repeatedly described India as a key market for the company. Speaking at the India AI Summit earlier this year, Altman praised the country's rapid AI adoption and growing investments across the AI ecosystem, from infrastructure and foundational models to applications. He said India's strong commitment to AI innovation positions it for a significant wave of AI-driven entrepreneurship.
