Owaisi Alleges Attempts To Delete Muslim Voters Through Form-7
AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that BJP workers are attempting to remove the names of Muslim voters from electoral rolls by submitting Form-7 applications during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Speaking at a programme on Saturday night, Owaisi urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Telangana Chief Electoral Officer to closely examine all Form-7 applications and identify those seeking deletion of voters’ names. He alleged that BJP and Sangh Parivar-linked individuals were using the process to target Muslim voters.
Owaisi specifically referred to Musheerabad, claiming that a BJP booth-level agent had submitted Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of Muslim voters’ names. He said strict action should be taken if applications were found to contain false information or had been submitted illegally.
Warning that eligible voters would not be allowed to be removed merely because they were Muslims, Owaisi called on AIMIM workers to question officials about who had filed Form-7 applications. He threatened larger protests in Hyderabad if such alleged attempts continued, saying they could be two or three times bigger than demonstrations held in Delhi and Mumbai.
Owaisi also criticised the SIR exercise, while acknowledging that the Supreme Court had allowed the process to proceed. He alleged that voter deletions could eventually lead to questions over citizenship and create difficulties if an NRC (National Register of Citizens) exercise was conducted in the future. Referring to statements by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and RSS leader Sunil Ambekar on NRC, he said the concerns should be taken seriously.
He also questioned objections to people having large families, saying there was nothing wrong with a person having six children and noting that he himself has six.
Owaisi rejected allegations that AIMIM wins elections through bogus votes, saying the party's victories were based on public support.
He separately alleged that wealthy accused in Hyderabad murder cases were spending around Rs 2 crore to secure bail, claiming that some arrangements involved jail officials and investigation-related processes.
Telangana BJP spokesperson N.V. Subhash rejected Owaisi's allegations, saying serious claims about the electoral system must be supported by evidence. He asked Owaisi to approach the courts or competent authorities if he had proof of electoral wrongdoing.
Subhash said constitutional institutions could be questioned in a democracy, but political statements cannot substitute evidence. He urged Owaisi to submit any evidence regarding voter-list manipulation through the appropriate legal channels.
