Owaisi Alleges BJP Plot to Strip Citizenship Rights Through SIR Process

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that the BJP-led central government is attempting to strip citizens of their rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He made these remarks while addressing the party’s 68th foundation day meeting on Saturday night.

Owaisi stated that after initiating the special revision of voter lists in Bihar , the same process would be implemented in Telangana and Maharashtra . He urged people to remain vigilant to ensure that the names of genuine voters are not removed from the rolls during the process. He further alleged that the exercise is being conducted through the Election Commission of India with the intent of undermining citizens’ rights.

Meanwhile, state election officials indicated that the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is likely to be announced in April and May this year .

Owaisi also strongly condemned an attack by some YouTubers on a Muslim trader during the recent Medaram Jatara in Telangana. “If a trader is selling ‘kova bun’, do you see ‘Food Jihad’ in it? If you do not like the food, you should complain to the police. But targeting someone on religious grounds like this amounts to treason,” he said. He demanded that Telangana Police take strict action against those responsible for the harassment.

He further called upon the government to act firmly against forces inciting communal hatred and to safeguard the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
