Owaisi Calls For Support To AIMIM In 2027 Uttar Pradesh Elections

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has urged people to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and support its candidates. He was speaking at a large public meeting organised in Hyderabad on Tuesday night on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi.

Owaisi questioned why every social community should not have its own political leadership and asserted that Muslims, too, needed strong representation. Recalling AIMIM’s victory in five seats in the Bihar Assembly elections, he expressed confidence that the party would perform well in Uttar Pradesh and appealed to supporters to work and pray for the success of its candidates.

Highlighting the issue of political representation, Owaisi said a community with a population of around 18 crore had only 24 MPs in Parliament. He argued that there were not enough voices raising issues concerning Muslims and recalled his intervention during the parliamentary debate over Vande Mataram.

Owaisi referred to the historical decision to sing only the first two stanzas of the national song, attributing it to Rabindranath Tagore, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi. Questioning the BJP’s position, he asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a greater patriot than these national figures and alleged that attempts to legislate on the issue amounted to disrespecting them.

He also criticised Uniform Civil Code (UCC) initiatives and urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to focus first on employment for the country’s unemployed population. Referring to UCC laws in Uttarakhand, Assam and Gujarat, Owaisi said uniformity should not be equated with equality and opposed imposing Hindu personal-law principles on Muslims.

Taking aim at the RSS, Owaisi alleged that its publication criticised the Constitution shortly after its adoption on November 26, 1949, and questioned its historical position regarding Manusmriti.

He further criticised the Allahabad High Court's ruling on a hijab petition, saying he would not accept the judgment and describing it as an attack on Islam. Owaisi maintained that stronger AIMIM representation was necessary to provide minorities with political and social security.
