All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the Government of India to intensify diplomatic efforts to push for Pakistan’s re-inclusion in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list .

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Owaisi argued that global pressure must be renewed on Pakistan over concerns related to terror financing and money laundering networks . He called on the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to take a more assertive role in international forums to ensure stricter scrutiny of Pakistan’s financial compliance mechanisms.

The MP highlighted recent international developments, including the United States designating The Resistance Front (TRF) an offshoot linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba as a global terrorist organisation. Owaisi stressed that such steps should be complemented by broader multilateral action, including recognition by the United Nations, rather than being limited to unilateral listings.

He further pointed to the need to bring Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence under greater global scrutiny in discussions on terror financing networks.

Owaisi also referred to past incidents, including the 2025 Red Fort suicide bombing , to underline what he described as continuing security concerns linked to cross-border terrorism. He argued that isolated designations by individual countries are insufficient unless backed by coordinated international pressure.

Separately, Owaisi welcomed India’s growing influence within global financial watchdog structures. He noted that senior bureaucrat Vivek Aggarwal’s election as Vice-President of FATF marks a significant milestone for India. The plenary session of FATF was recently held in Paris, where the Financial Action Task Force continues to monitor jurisdictions that fail to comply with international standards.

India, a member of FATF since 2010, is now expected to use its enhanced position to push for stronger enforcement measures, Owaisi suggested. He reiterated that Pakistan had previously remained on the FATF grey list from 2018 to 2022 before being removed after implementing a set of compliance actions.

Owaisi’s remarks add to ongoing political debate in India over how effectively global institutions are addressing state-linked terror financing concerns and whether existing mechanisms are sufficient to deter repeat violations.
