The Indian Army on Sunday said it foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, killing a Pakistani terrorist during a night operation.

According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, troops launched a joint operation in the Buchhar area of Uri on the intervening night of March 14-15 after receiving specific intelligence about a cross-border intrusion attempt. Soldiers on ambush duty detected suspicious movement in dense foliage and repositioned tactically before challenging the infiltrator. The terrorist opened indiscriminate fire , triggering a brief gunfight in which he was neutralised. Security forces recovered warlike stores , including an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition. Search operations were ongoing to rule out the presence of additional militants.

In a separate incident, a Junior Commissioned Officer lost his life during an anti-terror operation in the Poonch district on Saturday. The Army’s White Knight Corps said Subedar Sandeep Kumar Dhaka was part of Operation Sheri Kalan in rugged terrain when he slipped and fell at around 2:30 pm, becoming unresponsive. He was evacuated to a military hospital in Potha but could not be revived despite sustained medical efforts.

The Army said the gallant officer died in the line of duty , paying tribute to his courage, devotion, and selfless service while expressing solidarity with his bereaved family.
