Palaniswami Gives TVK Govt ‘Minus Zero’ Rating, Alleges Governance Failure
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday dubbed the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government a “reels government”, alleging that it was more concerned about image management than development and public welfare.
Speaking to reporters here, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister accused the government of neglecting development projects and failing to deliver tangible achievements. He contrasted the TVK administration's performance with that of the previous AIADMK government, which he said had focused on infrastructure development and public welfare initiatives.
Asked to rate the TVK government's performance over the past six months, Palaniswami gave it “minus zero”, signalling his dissatisfaction with its functioning. Defending the AIADMK's record in office, he cited the creation of new districts, the establishment of medical colleges and the implementation of infrastructure projects as examples of the party's developmental initiatives.
Palaniswami alleged that the current government had failed to demonstrate comparable progress, claiming that its emphasis was on projecting an image rather than addressing the needs of the people.
He also raised concerns over the state's law and order situation, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order under the TVK administration. Citing incidents of violence in public places, the AIADMK leader claimed that people were being attacked in broad daylight without fear of consequences. He argued that ensuring public safety was a fundamental responsibility of any elected government.
“The fundamental responsibility of any elected government is to protect its people, and on this front, the present regime has failed completely,” Palaniswami alleged. His remarks mark a fresh attack by the AIADMK leadership on the TVK government's governance record, with the opposition seeking to question its performance on development and public safety.
The TVK government had completed six months in office, the period Palaniswami referred to while assessing its performance. The allegations were made by Palaniswami during his interaction with reporters in Tiruchirappalli.
