Palmer Sparks Chelsea Comeback as Blues Beat Leeds 6-3 in League Cup Thriller

Chelsea produced a stunning second-half turnaround to beat Leeds United 6-3 in a high-scoring English League Cup thriller at Stamford Bridge, with substitute Cole Palmer transforming the contest after the hosts had fallen two goals behind.

Chelsea looked in serious trouble after Leeds took control of the game. Tarik Muharemovic opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Brenden Aaronson struck just three minutes after the restart to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

The game, however, changed dramatically when Palmer was introduced at halftime.

The England international immediately gave Chelsea the spark they were missing, converting a 53rd-minute penalty before producing a superb curling low finish only two minutes later to level the score.

Chelsea suddenly had the momentum and completed an extraordinary four-goal burst in just 12 minutes.

Another halftime substitute, Pedro Neto, swept the hosts in front in the 60th minute, before Danny Welbeck extended Chelsea's advantage five minutes later.

Leeds refused to disappear from the contest. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back in the 75th minute to make it 4-3 and briefly raise hopes of another twist.

Chelsea, though, kept their composure in the closing stages. Valentin Barco restored the two-goal cushion in the 80th minute, while Welbeck completed his brace deep into stoppage time to seal a remarkable 6-3 victory.

The result highlighted Chelsea's attacking firepower but also exposed a recurring defensive concern. The Blues have now conceded two or more goals in four of their last five games this season.

For Xabi Alonso's side, the comeback will be encouraging, but the defensive lapses remain an issue they will need to address as the campaign progresses.
