Paritala Sunitha Urges Pawan Kalyan to Upgrade Satya Sai Drinking Water Project in Anantapur

Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha met Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan at the Assembly office on Tuesday, urging urgent modernisation of the Satya Sai Drinking Water Project , a landmark initiative that supplies drinking water across the entire erstwhile combined Anantapur district .

In a detailed memorandum, the MLA explained that the Satya Sai project, launched nearly 30 years ago , was conceived as a district wide solution to address chronic drinking water scarcity in one of Andhra Pradesh’s most water stressed regions. Over the decades, the scheme has become the backbone of rural drinking water supply in the former Anantapur district, serving hundreds of villages and a population running into lakhs.

Sunitha pointed out that the project’s ageing infrastructure has begun to show serious strain, with frequent pipeline failures disrupting supply in several areas. She sought an allocation of ₹50 crore for comprehensive modernisation of the Satya Sai scheme, including replacement of old pipelines and strengthening of storage and distribution systems, to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply ahead of the summer season.

The MLA also highlighted the continued lack of adequate drinking water facilities in several habitations and requested ₹55 crore to extend reliable supply to uncovered villages within the constituency. Emphasising long term water security, she proposed a new Comprehensive Protected Water Supply scheme drawing water from the Gollapalli Reservoir to serve all villages in Ramagiri, Kanaganapalli and Chennekothapalli mandals of Sri Sathya Sai district, estimating a requirement of ₹180 crore .

Given the approach of summer, Sunitha urged the government to take up emergency water supply works on a priority basis to prevent hardship to rural communities.

In addition to drinking water issues, the MLA drew the Deputy Chief Minister’s attention to the poor condition of rural roads in Ramagiri, Kanaganapalli, CK Palli, Raptadu and Atmakur mandals. Responding positively to the representations, Pawan Kalyan assured that ₹11.50 crore would be sanctioned immediately for road repair works.

The meeting underlined the urgent need to rejuvenate the Satya Sai Drinking Water Project, which remains central to drinking water security across the former Anantapur district.
