Pawan Kalyan to Launch ₹1,500 Crore Development Works in Pithapuram

Pithapuram in Kakinada district is set for a major development push, with projects worth around ₹1,500 crore scheduled to be inaugurated or launched during a two-day visit by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The projects are aimed at improving basic infrastructure and public amenities while promoting environmental protection, drinking water supply, fishermen’s welfare and women’s economic empowerment. The Deputy Chief Minister’s Office said the broader objective was to develop Pithapuram as a model constituency in the country.

On Monday, Pawan Kalyan will inaugurate the upgraded Nagulapalli Comprehensive Protected Drinking Water Scheme, developed at a cost of ₹9.59 crore. The scheme is expected to provide drinking water to around 97,000 people across 52 habitations in U Kothapalli and Pithapuram rural mandals.

The water scheme, built nearly three decades ago, had struggled to ensure adequate supply to villages located at the tail end of the network. Its modernisation is intended to address those gaps and improve water availability in the affected areas.

He will also inaugurate Peethikapura Vanam, developed as part of efforts to expand green cover in Pithapuram town. Beautification works at the Chandurthi and Tatiparthi BT road stretch and the FK Palem Maisamma lake will also be opened to the public.

Several major infrastructure projects will be launched at a public meeting on Tuesday. These include a ₹307-crore multi-village drinking water scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Amarajeevi Jaladhara funds, a ₹200-crore underground drainage project for Pithapuram, and an ₹80-crore water works project for Gollaprolu.

Other proposed works include water infrastructure for Pithapuram Municipality under AMRUT 2.0, ₹100 crore for roads, a ₹118-crore road overbridge, and a ₹323-crore coastal protection wall at Uppada.

The visit will also focus on livelihood support. Fishermen will receive modern life jackets, while motorcycles equipped with dry-fish units and ice boxes will be distributed. Women’s self-help groups will receive ₹120 crore in loans with support from SERP and MEPMA. Regularisation pattas will also be handed over to 89 beneficiaries.
