Peddireddy Alleges Harassment of YSRCP Workers Under Coalition Government

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming local body elections, with senior leaders from the erstwhile Chittoor district holding a meeting to discuss the party’s electoral strategy and organisational preparedness.

The meeting was attended by YSRCP Regional Coordinator Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, district president Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, former Deputy Chief Minister K. Narayana Swamy, constituency coordinators and other party leaders. Discussions focused on preparations for the local body polls and the proposed ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ programme by secretariat employees.

Addressing the gathering, Peddireddy alleged that YSRCP workers, leaders and social media activists had faced widespread harassment during the 27 months of the coalition government’s rule. He claimed that lakhs of cases had been registered against party supporters and that some workers had even suffered financial and property losses.

Peddireddy said people were comparing the administrations of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and claimed that public support remained with the YSRCP. He also alleged that the coalition government had failed to fully implement its electoral promises.

Referring to the local body elections, Peddireddy questioned the government’s approach to conducting municipal and mandal-level elections. He said the government had earlier indicated that the elections would be held separately but was now proposing to conduct them simultaneously.

He warned that if the police machinery was allegedly used to influence the elections, the YSRCP would confront it politically. He also asked party leaders to give special attention to candidate selection to strengthen the party’s prospects in the local polls.

Peddireddy further alleged that prices of essential commodities had increased across the State and accused the government of failing to take adequate precautionary measures despite warnings about a possible El Niño impact.

On the secretariat employees’ issue, he said the previous YSRCP government had recruited 1.26 lakh secretariat employees in a single phase and claimed that the system had functioned without major criticism. He assured secretariat employees of the YSRCP’s support and urged the government to stop what he described as “undemocratic attacks” against them.

Peddireddy also alleged that complaints made to police authorities, from the DGP to lower-level officials, had not received an adequate response. The meeting concluded with discussions on strengthening the party organisation and preparing for the forthcoming local body elections.
