PIB Imphal Highlights 12 Years of Governance, Focuses on GST and NEP 2020 Reforms

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal, organised a one-day media workshop titled “12 Years of Governance: Education and Economic Reforms” to provide journalists and media professionals insights into key government policies, programmes and achievements over the past decade.

The workshop, held at Hotel Imolesh, Imphal, focused on strengthening interaction between the government and media while promoting accurate and informed reporting on developmental initiatives.

The event was attended by Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh, Director, DIPR , as Chief Guest, along with Dr. Engam Pame, Director, PIB Imphal , and representatives from media organisations, including AMWJU President Ashem Bhakta and Editors’ Guild Manipur President Khogendra Khomdram .

Addressing participants, officials highlighted the crucial role of media in a democracy and stressed the need for responsible journalism to improve public awareness about government schemes and reforms. Dr. Engam Pame said such interactions help bridge information gaps, counter misinformation and strengthen communication between policymakers and citizens.

The workshop featured technical sessions on economic reforms under GST and educational reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 .

During the GST session, officials from the Central GST, Imphal , explained the evolution of the tax system and its role in creating a unified national market through the “One Nation, One Tax” framework. They also discussed recent reforms aimed at reducing compliance challenges, improving ease of doing business and benefiting small enterprises.

The session on NEP 2020 , delivered by Prof. Angom Dilipkumar Singh of Manipur University, highlighted major changes including the 5+3+3+4 curricular structure , emphasis on foundational learning, vocational education from Class VI, flexible learning approaches and greater focus on inclusion.

Participants also engaged in discussions with experts to understand the impact of these reforms and their implementation at the grassroots level.

The workshop concluded with a call for stronger collaboration between government institutions and media organisations to ensure citizens receive accurate information about developmental policies and initiatives aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 .
