A sharp political confrontation has broken out after Kerala Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan criticized Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his remarks linking the state's anti-encroachment agency, HYDRAA , with Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler .

The controversy stems from comments made by Revanth Reddy during a media conclave in Bengaluru on Saturday. Referring to HYDRAA, the Chief Minister reportedly stated that the term was among Hitler's favorite words, triggering criticism from opposition leaders and political observers.

Responding strongly on Monday, Vijayan took to Facebook to condemn the remarks, describing them as disturbing and deeply inappropriate in a democratic society . He alleged that Revanth Reddy's comments gave the impression that the Telangana government was drawing inspiration from one of history's most notorious dictators while pursuing what he called a "bulldozer-style administration."

The veteran Left leader argued that such statements raise serious questions about the governance model being followed by the Congress government in Telangana. According to him, public representatives, particularly those holding constitutional positions, must be cautious when referring to figures associated with authoritarianism, violence and intolerance.

Vijayan further said the remarks could not be dismissed as a mere slip of the tongue. Instead, he contended that they reflected a troubling mindset and warranted a broader debate on democratic values and accountability in governance. He questioned how a Chief Minister could publicly make comments that appeared to glorify or normalize references to a leader widely regarded as one of the most brutal dictators in modern history.

Escalating his attack, Vijayan alleged that traces of Sangh Parivar ideology were visible in Revanth Reddy's political outlook. He accused the Congress party of not only tolerating such tendencies but also failing to effectively challenge the ideological positions of the BJP and RSS . The latest controversy, he said, reinforces concerns long raised by Left parties regarding the Congress' approach to combating right-wing politics.

Calling on democrats and civil society to take note of the episode, Vijayan said the issue goes beyond a political exchange between rival parties. He maintained that the debate concerns the principles that should guide public administration and the responsibility of elected leaders to uphold democratic norms.

The remarks have since triggered a wider political debate, with opposition parties seeking clarification from the Telangana Chief Minister and questioning the context in which the Hitler reference was made.
