PM Modi Congratulates Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed Ali On “Decisive” Election Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for his party’s “decisive” victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections, reaffirming India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with the African nation.

Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party has secured an overwhelming majority in the parliament following the June 1 elections , giving Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali a strong political mandate.

In a message posted on the social media platform ‘X’ , PM Modi extended his greetings and described the election outcome as a significant victory for the ruling party.

“Heartiest congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Prosperity Party for a decisive victory in the Ethiopian parliamentary elections. India greatly cherishes its historic, multifaceted and deep-rooted ties with Ethiopia ,” PM Modi said.

He further added that India values its long-standing relationship with Ethiopia, which spans diplomatic cooperation, development partnership, and cultural exchanges .

Recalling his personal engagement with the African nation, the Prime Minister said he fondly remembers his visit to Ethiopia last year , which helped strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries.

“I fondly recall my visit to Ethiopia last year and look forward to working closely together to further strengthen our Strategic Partnership and the bonds of friendship between our peoples,” he added.

India and Ethiopia have steadily expanded cooperation in areas such as capacity building, trade, development assistance, and multilateral engagement , reflecting a growing partnership between India and African nations.
