PM Modi Shares Ancient Sanskrit Wisdom on Helping Others Without Expectation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting the importance of selfless service and working for the welfare of others without expecting anything in return.
Sharing the verse on social media, Modi drew attention to the virtues of compassion, generosity and service, presenting them as qualities that naturally define noble and elevated individuals.
The Subhashitam uses the example of the moon awakening water lilies with its rays. It asks whether the moon performs this act while seeking any favour or reward in return. The verse then conveys that helping others is not driven by personal gain but is a natural characteristic of people with an elevated mind and noble character.
The Prime Minister’s post underlined the traditional Indian emphasis on paropakar, or doing good for others. The message places service and concern for the welfare of others above expectations of recognition or reciprocation.
The Sanskrit wisdom shared by Modi also reflects a broader philosophical idea in Indian tradition: that individuals of noble character contribute to society simply because service is inherent to their nature.
The post was shared by the Prime Minister on August 7 and was also highlighted by the Prime Minister’s Office through a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau.
The message comes as a reminder of the enduring relevance of ancient Indian teachings, particularly the principle that true service is rendered without expectation of personal benefit. Through the Subhashitam, Modi emphasised the value of cultivating a spirit of selflessness and contributing to the well-being of others as an integral part of a meaningful life.
