PM Modi to Address IIT Delhi Convocation, Unveil New AI Supercomputing Facility ‘Param Pragya’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at the Sonipat campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, during his visit to the institute on Saturday.

The facility marks a significant step in strengthening India’s advanced computing and artificial intelligence capabilities, while giving IIT Delhi a powerful platform for research in emerging technologies.

Modi will be the chief guest at the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi, scheduled to be held at 11 am on August 8. More than 3,000 graduating students, including 587 PhD scholars, will receive their degrees at the ceremony.

The Prime Minister will also honour students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance by presenting IIT Delhi’s prestigious awards, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.

The inauguration of Param Pragya is expected to be one of the key highlights of the Prime Minister’s visit. The AI-focused high-performance computing facility has been established to expand IIT Delhi’s ability to undertake demanding computational research and support work across several technology-intensive disciplines.

With artificial intelligence becoming increasingly important across sectors, the facility is expected to strengthen research in AI, data science and advanced computing, while also supporting interdisciplinary projects that require substantial computational power.

The development comes as India continues to expand its research and technological infrastructure to support innovation in artificial intelligence and other emerging fields. Advanced computing facilities such as Param Pragya can provide researchers with the computational resources required to process large datasets, develop sophisticated AI models and undertake complex simulations.

At the convocation, Modi is also expected to address the graduating students and highlight the role of young researchers and professionals in shaping India’s technological future.

The event will bring together academic achievement and technological advancement, with the convocation celebrating a new generation of IIT Delhi graduates while the inauguration of Param Pragya underlining the institute’s expanding role in cutting-edge research.
