Police Question Siya Goyal's Family as Pune Realtor Murder Investigation Deepens
The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal gathered pace on Saturday as police summoned the family members of the prime accused, Siya Goyal , for questioning.
Siya's parents, Pravin Goyal and Puja Goyal , along with her brother Sahil Goyal , appeared before the Lonavala Rural Police Station , where investigators recorded their statements as part of the ongoing probe.
Sahil had earlier been questioned for more than 10 hours on Friday before being allowed to leave. Police said the questioning of the family members forms part of efforts to gather additional evidence and establish the sequence of events leading up to the murder.
According to investigators, Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary (22) , conspired to kill Agarwal by pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district's Maval taluka on June 18 . Police claim Siya and Agarwal were engaged and scheduled to marry in November , but she allegedly wanted to end the relationship and plotted the murder with Chetan.
The investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly deleted their entire phone chat history and emptied the recycle bins on their devices before and after the crime in an attempt to destroy evidence. Their mobile phones have since been sent to a forensic laboratory , where experts are attempting to recover the deleted data.
Police also suspect that the duo met at a cafe on the day of the murder to finalise their plan, including identifying the precise location at Lohagad Fort where Agarwal would be pushed. Investigators further allege that Chetan encouraged Siya to eliminate her fiancé.
Meanwhile, the victim's father, Vishal Agarwal , met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday, seeking a speedy trial. The Chief Minister reportedly agreed to pursue the case in a fast-track court and appointed senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as the special public prosecutor .
In a show of solidarity with the victim's family, residents have organised a candlelight vigil at Belmondo Housing Society in Gahunje, where Ketan Agarwal lived, as the investigation continues.
