Political tensions intensified across Anantapur district on Saturday following rival protest calls by the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) over the recent violence in Tadipatri.

The district administration and police moved to prevent any escalation by denying permission for demonstrations proposed by both parties, citing law and order concerns .

The latest confrontation stems from clashes that broke out between TDP and YSRCP supporters in Tadipatri on June 23. In the aftermath, both parties announced separate protest programmes, accusing each other of being responsible for the unrest.

According to party sources, TDP leaders had planned a protest near the residence of the YSRCP district president in Anantapur to condemn the violence. Meanwhile, YSRCP announced a joint dharna and silent march in Tadipatri as a mark of protest against the incident.

Following the police decision to withhold permission, TDP leaders postponed their programme. However, YSRCP leaders decided to proceed with their plans and attempt to reach Tadipatri for a silent demonstration.

Anticipating possible confrontations, police deployed additional security personnel at key locations, including the YSRCP district office in Anantapur. Security arrangements were strengthened across the district, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.

Reports indicated that police intercepted several YSRCP leaders and workers who were attempting to travel to Tadipatri. The movement of party cadres and the gathering of supporters near the district party office contributed to a tense atmosphere in parts of Anantapur.

Authorities were also considering preventive measures against senior YSRCP leaders, including the possibility of placing district party president Ananta Venkatarami Reddy under house arrest to avoid any deterioration in the situation.

Police officials said notices had been issued to leaders of both parties and that all necessary precautions were being taken to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents. They reiterated that strict security arrangements were in place to ensure public order across the district.
