Ponguleti Throws Open Challenge To KTR Over Indiramma Housing Scheme

The political war over the Indiramma housing scheme intensified in Telangana after Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy launched a sharp attack on BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and challenged him to a public political showdown over housing construction.

In a strongly worded post on social media platform X , Ponguleti accused KTR of deliberately avoiding discussions on the progress of housing projects in rural areas and instead focusing only on housing issues in Hyderabad for political mileage.

The minister said the Congress government had already begun construction of nearly 4.5 lakh houses within its first two-and-a-half years in office, calling it proof that the government was focused on implementation rather than promises. He further announced that work on another 2.5 lakh houses would begin from June 1, along with the first phase of one lakh Indiramma houses in Hyderabad .

Ponguleti claimed that the present Congress administration had constructed nearly three times more houses in two-and-a-half years than the BRS government managed during its decade-long rule.

Escalating his criticism, the minister alleged that BRS leaders had bowed before the BJP leadership in Delhi to escape corruption cases. He referred to earlier remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , BJP MP CM Ramesh , and BRS MLC Kavitha while attacking the opposition party.

He also accused the previous BRS government of misleading people on major promises ranging from a Dalit Chief Minister to the double-bedroom housing scheme . Ponguleti alleged large-scale corruption during the previous regime, mentioning issues linked to Dharani land dealings and alleged benami transactions.

Throwing a direct challenge to KTR, the minister questioned the financial growth of BRS leaders after coming to power in 2014 and alleged that public wealth had been looted during the party’s tenure.

“If the Congress government fails to build more houses than the BRS did in ten years, I will not contest the next elections. But if Congress surpasses your record, will you stay away from electoral politics?” Ponguleti asked, daring KTR to accept the challenge.
