Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2’ Gets A Bollywood Star? Naseeruddin Shah Reportedly In Talks

Prabhas’ highly anticipated sci-fi sequel ‘Kalki 2’ is getting bigger with every update, and the latest buzz could bring another legendary Bollywood name into Nag Ashwin’s futuristic world. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is reportedly in talks for a key role in the sequel to the 2024 blockbuster ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.

According to fresh reports, Naseeruddin Shah has been approached for an important part in ‘Kalki 2’. If the casting is eventually confirmed, the film would mark his Telugu debut after a remarkable 51-year career in Indian cinema. However, neither the actor nor the makers have officially announced his involvement yet, making this a casting buzz for now.

The possible addition of Naseeruddin Shah comes as ‘Kalki 2’ prepares to enter its next major phase. Nag Ashwin has now confirmed that regular shooting will begin in October 2026, with the director hoping to complete filming by mid-2027. The update arrives shortly after the first film picked up two National Film Awards for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Special Effects. Ashwin described the recognition as a positive boost for the team.

The production has already begun, although the extent of the completed shoot has been reported differently. Ashwin said earlier this month that the team had shot for only around 10 days and was waiting for Prabhas to become available for a longer schedule. Separately, a recent report claimed that around 30 per cent of the sequel has been filmed and that a Pan-India actor had been locked for a special cameo. The 30 per cent figure has not been officially confirmed by Ashwin.

Prabhas’ availability remains crucial as the actor is simultaneously working on Hanu Raghavapudi’s period action drama ‘Fauzi’ and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’. Once his current commitments ease, ‘Kalki 2’ is expected to move into its extensive shooting schedule.

The sequel will bring back Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, while one major change has already been confirmed. Deepika Padukone, who played Sumathi in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, will not return for the sequel after the production house announced that it had parted ways with the actor.

Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah was recently seen in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, where he played a 95-year-old Sikh man haunted by memories of Partition. His performance as Ishar Grewal drew attention, adding further interest to the latest casting buzz around ‘Kalki 2’.
