Pregnant Woman Dies After Alleged Police Kick in UP's Firozabad, Six Suspended

A 28-year-old pregnant woman died after police personnel allegedly kicked her in the abdomen while attempting to arrest her husband in connection with a theft case in Firozabad's Shikohabad area, officials said. Six police personnel, including two sub-inspectors, have been suspended following the incident.

According to the woman's family, Sub-Inspector Dharmpal Singh arrived at Gaurav's residence in Labhaua village with a police team around 11.45 pm on Sunday to arrest him in the theft case.

The family alleged that Gaurav's pregnant wife, Anjali, pleaded with the police not to take her husband away. They claimed Singh then kicked her in the abdomen, causing her to fall.

After the police took Gaurav, 32, away, Anjali's condition reportedly deteriorated. She was admitted to a hospital in Shikohabad, where she gave birth to a baby boy on Monday morning, the family said.

Her condition worsened following the delivery, prompting her transfer to a private hospital in Firozabad. Doctors there declared her dead, according to the family. The family also claimed that Gaurav was released after police personnel learned about Anjali's death.

Following the incident, villagers gathered at the police station and created a ruckus, questioning the alleged police action. The newborn boy was also reported to be in critical condition and was referred to Agra for further treatment.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ravi Shankar Prasad said Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe ordered the immediate suspension of six personnel for negligence.

Those suspended are Sub-Inspectors Dharmpal Singh and Satyapal Singh, Head Constables Mohan Singh and Arvind Kumar, and Constables Bhavtosh Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar.

Police said Anjali's post-mortem examination was conducted late Monday night, after which her last rites were performed. A large police force was deployed during the proceedings.
