Preparations Begin for Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision of Voter Rolls

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana is expected to be announced during April–May 2026 , Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharsan Reddy said on Thursday while addressing a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties.

The CEO noted that the SIR is currently underway in 12 states, and the schedule for the remaining states, including Telangana, is likely to be notified in the coming months. Given the limited time available once the revision is announced , preparatory work has already begun in the state to ensure smooth implementation and minimise any last-minute challenges.

Reddy emphasised that political parties must appoint at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for every polling station ahead of the SIR. BLAs, he said, should preferably be drawn from the local area of the polling station and work in close coordination with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) . Strong booth-level coordination, he added, would be central to ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely resolution of issues during the revision of electoral rolls.

During the SIR, BLOs are expected to make three to four visits to each polling area. The first visit will involve distribution of voter enumeration forms , while subsequent visits will cover households that were unavailable earlier or require verification. The process ensures that new voters who have turned 18, corrections in voter details, removal of deceased voters , and updating information for those who have migrated are all completed efficiently. Reddy clarified that electors who are not mapped during the preparatory phase can still furnish their details during the SIR.

The CEO also highlighted the importance of public participation and urged voters to cooperate with BLOs and BLAs during the exercise. Political parties were reminded that BLAs play a crucial role in monitoring the process, reporting discrepancies, and ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded from the rolls.

The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Vasam Venkateshwar Reddy , Deputy CEO Hari Singh , and other senior election officials. The CEO’s office emphasised that early appointment of BLAs and proactive booth-level engagement would significantly strengthen electoral roll accuracy, reduce grievances, and enhance public confidence in the election process.

With SIR expected in April–May, Telangana is gearing up to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date voter lists , a critical step for the forthcoming elections in the state.
