In a significant move aimed at strengthening the judiciary in Andhra Pradesh , the President of India has appointed three judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court . The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred under the Constitution and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India , according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday.

The three judicial officers appointed as Additional Judges are Smt. Sunitha Gandham , Shri Alapati Giridhar , and Shri Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi (Ch. Purushottama Kumar).

The appointments are expected to strengthen the functioning of the Andhra Pradesh High Court , which has been handling a growing number of civil, criminal, constitutional, and public interest cases. The induction of additional judges is aimed at improving judicial efficiency, ensuring quicker disposal of pending cases, and enhancing access to timely justice for litigants across the state.

The official notification stated that the appointments were made after due consultation with the Chief Justice of India , in accordance with the constitutional procedure governing appointments to the higher judiciary. The announcement was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice , with Jagannath Srinivasan , Joint Secretary to the Government of India, signing the notification.

The appointment of additional judges is a regular constitutional process undertaken to address the increasing workload in High Courts and to ensure that judicial administration remains effective. Such appointments play a crucial role in reducing case backlogs and improving the overall efficiency of the justice delivery system.

With the induction of these three judicial officers, the Andhra Pradesh High Court is expected to receive a welcome boost in its judicial capacity, helping expedite hearings and reinforce public confidence in the state's judicial framework.

The appointments take effect as notified by the Government of India and form part of the Centre's continuing efforts to strengthen the higher judiciary by filling judicial vacancies across High Courts in the country.
