President Murmu, PM Modi Unveil ₹47,600-Crore Odisha Package as BJP Government Marks Two Years
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday jointly inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore in Odisha, marking one of the largest investment announcements for the state in recent years.
The visit, centred around Mayurbhanj district , coincided with the second anniversary celebrations of the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and carried both developmental and symbolic significance, as the President hosted the Prime Minister in her native region.
The two leaders began the day by visiting Pahadpur village , where they offered prayers at tribal sacred sites, including local Jahera and Gosani shrines. They were welcomed with traditional tribal dances and cultural performances, underscoring Odisha's rich indigenous heritage and the Centre's emphasis on tribal empowerment.
The projects unveiled during the visit span railways, roads, energy, industrial development, connectivity and public infrastructure . The package includes key railway initiatives, power sector investments and a major coal gasification project aimed at strengthening Odisha's industrial ecosystem and generating employment opportunities.
Addressing a public gathering, Prime Minister Modi described Odisha as a key driver of eastern India's growth and said the projects would accelerate the state's economic transformation. He also highlighted the achievements of the BJP government in Odisha over the past two years, reiterating the benefits of a " double-engine government " at the Centre and in the state.
Thousands of people gathered for the event, while elaborate security arrangements were put in place across Mayurbhanj and adjoining areas. Villages and public venues were specially decorated ahead of the visit by the President and Prime Minister.
President Murmu's Odisha visit will continue on June 21 , when she is scheduled to participate in a series of official engagements, including the inauguration of development projects in Rairangpur , her hometown. She is also expected to interact with local residents and attend programmes focused on education, community welfare and regional development.
