The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) has achieved a landmark milestone after receiving official recognition from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as India's first division professional volleyball league , paving the way for Indian clubs to compete on the international stage.

The announcement comes ahead of the league's fifth season , which is set to begin on November 30 , with the players' auction scheduled in Goa on August 17 , where franchises will build their squads from the country's top volleyball talent.

The recognition marks a major breakthrough for Indian volleyball, validating the league's steady growth since its launch four years ago. More importantly, it creates a pathway for participating clubs to qualify for prestigious international competitions organised by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) , the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and the FIVB , subject to eligibility and qualification norms.

League organisers described the development as a significant endorsement of the competition's professionalism and long-term vision to elevate volleyball in India. The move is expected to expose Indian clubs to stronger international competition while offering players greater opportunities to showcase their talent on the global stage.

Calling it a defining moment for the league, Tuhin Mishra , Managing Director and Co-Founder of Baseline Ventures and Director of Prime Volleyball League, said the recognition validates the efforts made over the past four years to build a credible and globally relevant competition.

PVL CEO Joy Bhattacharjya said the progress of Indian volleyball is already visible, pointing to the Indian men's team's rise from World No. 60 to World No. 42 in the FIVB rankings . He said the league has remained focused on improving the sport's ecosystem while creating long-term opportunities for players.

The FIVB has also directed the Volleyball Federation of India's interim administration , led by Virender Kanwar , to work closely with the league to align the domestic calendar, ensure player availability and integrate national training camps. The international body said such coordination would help establish a structured pathway for athlete development and strengthen India's performances in global competitions.

With global recognition now in place, Season 5 of the Prime Volleyball League promises to be its biggest edition yet , signalling a new chapter for Indian volleyball as it aims to establish a stronger presence on the international sporting map.
