Singapore's Workers' Party (WP) has re-elected Pritam Singh , 50, as its Secretary General , reaffirming confidence in the opposition leader despite his conviction for lying to Parliament and the subsequent loss of his Leader of the Opposition (LoP) title. Singh was returned unopposed during the party's leadership election on Sunday after securing a "supermajority" in an internal confidence vote sought by a group of party cadres, effectively ending speculation over his leadership.

The confidence vote was triggered after 25 party cadres requested that Singh explain the circumstances surrounding his conviction and either step down or seek a fresh mandate. Following the overwhelming endorsement, no challenger contested the party's top post. The development is widely seen as a strong display of unity within Singapore's largest opposition party despite its leader's legal troubles.

Addressing the media after his re-election, Singh said the party understood its responsibility to behave in a rational and responsible manner while faithfully representing Singaporeans. He added that the Workers' Party must "close ranks" if it is to continue serving the public effectively.

The Workers' Party currently holds 12 parliamentary seats , including two Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs) . The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) , led by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong , commands 87 elected seats , while Parliament also includes nine nominated MPs appointed on merit.

Singh has served as the Workers' Party's Secretary General since 2018 and has been an MP since 2011 . He was Singapore's first formally appointed Leader of the Opposition before being removed from the post earlier this year following his conviction. Party Chair Sylvia Lim was re-elected, while 12 other members joined the Central Executive Committee (CEC) , with most retaining their previous positions. Indian-origin senior counsel Harpreet Singh , who unsuccessfully contested the 2025 General Election, was elected to the CEC for the first time.
